A Calbex ‘All the Rage’ Review: Glossier

March 7, 2018

Hiya! I am so excited to share my review of Glossier today on the blog. I actually received my first Glossier product, the Cloud Paint blush in Dusk, from a girlfriend who said while she loved the product, the color was too dark for her.  So, she handed it off to me and I immediately fell in love with it.  Couple using that with the constant feed of Glossier ads on Instagram and I had a hard time resisting making a purchase. I spent the first 6 years of my career in advertising, and have an MBA with a marketing concentration, so you’d think that I would be immune to the effects of advertising and a fab brand – I’m not!  It’s not that I necessarily enjoy Instagram ads, but the way that Glossier markets their products is something I find myself sort of addicted to watching.  It’s like a tutorial in an ad; watching someone else’s beauty regimen.  For me this is not only an ad, but great content. They’ve received numerous accolades for their campaigns. I jumped on board and ordered a few products… and wow, am I impressed with this brand. Not to mention, the founder is a total girl boss.  Blogger turned business mogul.

If you’ve seen the Glossier Instagram ads, you know that many of them promote this natural, fresh-faced type girl who doesn’t spend a lot of time on her makeup.  Well, you guys, I obviously really enjoy spending time on my makeup, but lately I have been so happy with my skincare routine that I’ve been excited about experimenting with an occasional foundation-free face…especially with spring and summer in the near future. The brand is heavy on self-love, and touts a “skin first, makeup second” approach to life.  They want to celebrate their customers and the freedom these customers have to choose the products they want to use to build their daily looks.  So, I was excited to pick some products to build my own routine:

  • Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser to cleanse face
  • Glossier Boy Brow for fuller brows
  • Cloud Paint Blush in Dusk
  • Generation G Sheer Matte Lipstick in Zip

I did apply a few drops of my Dior Diorskin NudeAir Serum foundation, and because I do not [yet] have the Glossier Stretch Concealer I used my NARS concealer under my eyes (dabbed with my fingers).  For mascara I used my Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions because right now I do not feel the need to try another mascara in my life.

Glossier Product Review

Note: This is not paid content.  This review is of my own purchases, research, and personal opinion.

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser

This product is a dream and I enjoy washing my face twice daily with it.  It melts makeup from my face and leaves my skin feeling soft and clean every time I use it.

Glossier Boy Brow

I have religiously been using Anastasia Beverly Hills brow gel, and other brow liners, but Boy Brow has given my brows new life! There is something special about this product.  I always seem to apply the perfect amount of product with ease and it never feels caked on.  It adds gorgeous, natural volume to my brows.  With the ABH gel, as much as I love it, I was constantly wiping the brush off to make sure I wasn’t smearing product on my skin accidentally.  I don’t encounter that issue with Boy Brow, part of which I think is because the actual brush head is small and compact enough to precisely deliver product to just the brows, and not the skin.

Glossier Cloud Paint Blush

A little goes a long way.  I squeeze a small amount onto my fingertips and dab on the apples of my cheeks.  It gives me such a warm, natural glow.  I’m definitely wanting to try some other colors here.

Glossier Generation G Lip

I bought this product in the color, Zip, which is a bright red that really pops on your lips.  I LOVE the color.  I don’t really feel that the color is sheer as the name suggests,  but I do love how it stays on my lips all day long through coffee and water sippin’ and I can’t even feel it.

Overall Glossier Review

I’m in love with Glossier products. I love the simplicity of them and the effortless beauty they lead to.  I’ll be ordering myself the concealer as well as some other lip and blush colors.  I also have my eye on their famous new sunscreen and I’m interested in the solution and moisturizer. I think as we begin to get into warmer weather, Glossier will become a major part of my beauty routine.  Little Cloud Paint and Generation G lip on sun-kissed skin before hitting the beach? Sounds good to me!

Does the cleanser function as a facewash *and* a makeup remover? Can you describe how you use it? I’m always looking for good ways to remove my makeup because I HATE removing my makeup.

Hi! Yes – it’s a cleanser and makeup remover in one, except I think the way it’s utilized makes it more effective than your typical face wash that touts makeup removing abilities. While your skin is dry, you pump the jelly into your palms and massage onto your face. You’ll start to see your makeup melting off– I’m talking foundation, concealer, lipstick, eyeshadow, brows…all of it!– then you rise with water and voila! clean, smooth skin revealed. I also hate the process of removing makeup…and we all know I looove wearing it! Ha. So this product is amazing in that respect.
