A zero-foundation look that will change your summer makeup routine.
Happy Hump Day! Can you believe we’re a week away from 4th of July? This summer is flying, and if I’m being honest I’ve not had much time to soak up any of it. I’ve gotten in two pool days, zero beach time (other than a quick glimpse of the ocean at a wedding if that counts), and I’m still as pale as can be. Self-tanner and makeup tricks are my best friends right now… which brings me to this post.
A few days ago, I was scrolling through Instagram when I came across a photo of Gigi Hadid posted by famous celebrity makeup artist, Patrick Ta. For those of you that haven’t heard of Patrick Ta, he’s responsible for the beautiful celebrity faces of Bella Hadid, Kim Kardashian, Shay Mitchell, Chrissy Teigen, and so many more. I guess you can say I’m more interested in following the makeup artists of celebrities than celebrities themselves (unless it’s a Bravo Reality Star – in which case, sign me up). Anyway, his post featured a gorgeously glowing Gigi Hadid (nothing new there, she’s beautiful!) and was captioned with a new makeup trick he had tried out on her: absolutely zero foundation, concealer to highlight, and a Maybelline contour stick to shadow. I was immediately intrigued and took a quick screenshot to give myself something to try over the weekend.
I’ve already got a great concealer in Glossier’s stretch concealer product. It leaves the area under my eyes with a dewy finish which is one of my favorite things about it. I’m not sure if you’re familiar with the Maybelline Fit Me foundation sticks, but I used to exclusively use them when I first started out with highlighting and contouring. I had to make a trip to CVS on Friday, so I snagged the darkest shade named “Coconut.” After scrolling their website, Maybelline has another contour stick, but I’ve had great success with the foundation stick so stuck with that. I consider it another Drug Store Find for Keeps.
Make sure you’ve moisturized and done your skincare routine prior so the makeup glides on smoothly!
Below is my personalized routine for this look:
I filled in my brows with ABH Brow Wiz in Taupe. I am embracing lighter brows for summer so I haven’t tinted them since April. Some people think the lighter the brow, the more youthful you look. That certainly can’t hurt!
For my eyeshadow, I played around with taupes and pinks from ABH’s Modern Renaissance Palette. But you could do no eyeshadow for a more natural look, too. You could also just contour the eye with a light powder bronzer for depth.
Mascara is Glossier’s Lash Slick.
Concealer: I used Glossier’s stretch concealer in “Light” pretty freely under my eyes, down my nose, in the middle of forehead, and a few dabs on my chin.
Contour: I used the Maybelline contour stick on my forehead along my hair line, in the hollows of my cheeks, down the sides of my nose, and on my jaw line
I blended both in with my beauty blender. Applied and blended the concealer first, and the contour second.
I added a dab of pink blush on the apples of my cheeks. Any blush will go – just depends on what kind of look you’re going for!
I used one of my favorites — NARS Bettina. This lip is my favorite nude lip and stays on practically all day unless I wipe it off.
This look leaves my skin with a natural-looking summer dewiness. The absence of foundation leaves my complexion with a weightless glow, and I LOVE adding a bright pink or coral when I’m wearing this look out at night.
Most important tip — have fun with this! Makeup should be a totally personal experience, so experiment and make it your own.
